Fiji through to the Cup Quarterfinal

By JOSEPHINE NAVULA

Fiji now secures themselves a place in the Cup Quarterfinals after defeating Scotland in a tough match, 14-12.

Winger, Samisoni Viriviri scorched his way through defense from Scotland and scampered towards the try line to score the opening try for Fiji, following a conversion from Joji Raqamate, 7-0.

Fiji then stretched their lead after a chip and chase play from Ilai Tinai scoring the second try under the post, 14-0.

Scotland’s playmaker Colin Gregor helped his side to bounce back after scoring a try and later converted it.

Fiji led halftime, 14-7.

Fiji’s Nemani Nagusa was awarded yellow card for professional foul, playing the ball while on the ground in the first two minutes of the second half.

Gregor scored his second try in the match, but was not enough to beat Fiji.

Meanwhile, Manueli Laqai has been ruled out of the remainder of the Las Vegas tournament after an eye-gouging incident in the opening game against England. Laqai has been handed a 6-match ban which effectively rules him out of the remainder of the Las Vegas tournament and Fiji’s opening Hong Kong 7s tournament if the player does make the travelling team to So Kon Po.

Fiji’s last pool match is against Portugal at 8am tomorrow.

The Cup quarters start at 1.52pm tomorrow.
