Fiji Barbarians wins Uprising 7s

Fiji Barbarians went home winners after defeating FMF Fiji Warriors, 31-12, at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

It was a good comeback for the team after they got defeated in their last pool match against Tonga, 17-14.

Tonga’s Coach Etuate Waqa said it has been a great experience for his boys to play in this tournament.

“I was very happy with the boys performance against the Fiji Barbarians and we hope to maintain the performance,” he said.

Wainiqolo’s led side took on the Yamacia and defeated them, 26-12.

The boys defeated NZ Emerging 7s team in the semifinal, 33-7. Fiji Barbarians put on a strong match against the boys from New Zealand, leading halftime with 19-0.

NZ Emerging 7s team’s Technical Adviser, Gordon Tietjens said it was a good experience to see such young players in action.

“There are a lot of young players playing here in Fiji and it’s really good because they had the talent, and it would really hard on the coaches to pick the right players,” he said.

National Coach Alifereti Dere later announced the final 16 member squad for the Wellington 7s after the Final match.

Forwards: Ulaiasi Lawavou, Setefano Cakau, Nemani Nagusa, Manueli Laqai, Jone Vota, Jasa Veremalua, Peni Ravai, Mosese Saunivanua.

Backs: Manasa Naiyagi, Josua Tuisova, Joji Ragamate, Ilai Tinai, Samisoni Viriviri, Sakiusa Gavidi, Eremasi Benedito, Emosi Mulevoro.
