  1. EDUCATION MINISTRY ANNOUNCES 2016 BUDGET

The Ministry of Education has announced that the year 2016 will see Capital Project grants allocated for teachers quarters.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Education Hon. Mahendra Reddy while meeting the Bua and Seaqaqa Council of School Managers in the Northern Division today.=

Dr Reddy said it was sad to see that teachers especially married couples sharing quarters with other single teachers.

“There is no privacy in such cases and we have received this request from the school managers,” Dr Reddy said.

In the meeting, school managers for Ratu Luke Secondary School and Nabala Secondary requested the Ministry’s Support in completing the teachers quarters in their respective schools.

School Manager for Ratu Luke Secondary Setareki Matakicakau acknowledged the Minister’s quick response to their request.

“We are happy that we have had this meeting with the Minster, this meeting shows that government takes our concerns seriously.

“We are representing our children’s and teachers needs in different schools especially in rural areas like Bua,” Mr Matakicakau said.

Meanwhile the Hon. Minister Reddy has called on School Managers in the Northern Division to work together for the interest of the School children.

“We gather in such meetings for the interest of our children and not our own, our future generations are very important,” Dr Reddy said.

Dr Reddy  said previously  it was difficult for people to collect money for school constructions and give children basic education.

“Previous governments never kept an upkeep of school repairs in the rural and maritime areas, they are falling apart,” Dr Reddy said.

Dr Reddy said they have decided to take over the repair, maintenance and upkeep of the schools.

“We will provide more grants and the free education grant will be increased next year and it is not only for stationary but also for maintenance and repairs.

“We will provide additional capital grants for construction of quarters and classrooms and to ensure that the difference between rural and urban schools is removed,” Dr Reddy added.
