Home loan, budgeting, debt to income ratio, rights and responsibilities under the Consumer Credit Act including the hardship clause are the main issues that will be discussed at the Consumer Council of Fiji- organised workshop in Labasa on Thursday (27 August 2015).
The workshop is part of the Council’s campaign activity under the project supported by the Anne Fransen Fund, with the aim to create public awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities when accessing financial services.
The Council through this campaign will also be advocating on existing laws that protect consumers such as the Consumer Credit Act, the way this piece of legislation operates and the level of protection it provides to the borrowers as well as the lenders.
The Consumer Watchdog believes that consumer education will empower consumers to make well-informed decisions when obtaining home loans or buying items on hire purchase.
The Labasa Workshop will be held at Hotel Takia from 9 am and the Master of the High Court, Labasa, Mr. Harry Robinson will officiate the workshop.
The Council will also conduct a community visit in Seaqaqa at the Seaqaqa Police Bure on Friday, 28 August 2015. Similar issues will also be discussed. North consumers are encouraged to attend the workshop to better understand debt-related issues.
