The formation of Nadi Sports Council is a step closer following the adoption of a draft constitution which has been put together by sports enthusiast RegSanday.
Mr Sanday, a former president of Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) now resides in Nadi and is contributing massively towards the development of sports and recreation in the district.
In a special committee meeting this week, interim committee members led by chairman Usman Ali have unanimously agreed to adopt the proposed constitution which now forms the basis to conduct the first annual general meeting (AGM) whereby permanent officials will be elected for a term of twelve-months.
“The AGM will be held on Wednesday, June 17 and a suitable venue will be confirmed soon,” said Mr Usman Ali.
He said the formation of Nadi Sports Council will ensure a collective voice for the promotion of sports and recreation in the greater Nadi area.
“We will be a collective voice for all sporting bodies in Nadi and as a unified group, much more can be achieved when dealing with development of infrastructure and government assistance on special projects and events,” Mr Ali added.
“We will be soon in touch with leaders of all the sporting associations in the district so that we are able to form a very powerful council.”
Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju who is co-chairing the formation of the council says the committee will work very closely with the Fijian Government, Fiji Sports Commission and Nadi Town Council to achieve its goals.
“I request heads of all sporting bodies to register their interest by calling Usman Ali on 9973229 or via email usmanali@connect.com.fj before the AGM,” Dr Raju concluded.
