A 32 year old of Waimalika Nadi who was involved in a serious accident earlier this month passed away yesterday morning at the Lautoka Hospital.
The accident occurred on Wednesday 9th when a vehicle driven by a 34 year old of Suva who was heading to the Nadi Airport allegedly bumped the deceased who was standing on the left side of the road.
The driver had also allegedly failed to stop after the accident. However he was later arrested at Cuvu, Sigatoka and escorted to the Namaka Police station.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the accused was interviewed and charged for 3 counts. First count was dangerous driving, second count was failed to stop after an accident and third count was accident and failed to report after an accident.
He appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court on 11th of this month and was bailed to appear on the 1st of March.
However with the latest developments investigators will be looking at the case once again.
A post mortem is expected to be conducted soon.
The road death toll currently stands at 2 compared to 0 for the same period last year.
