12 year old student that drowned in the Kamakau River yesterday last week brings the national drowning toll to 2 compared to 3 for the same period last year.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the post mortem was conducted yesterday and the cause of death was drowning.
2012 recorded the highest in the past 13 years of recorded drowning figures from the Fiji Police Force. An average of 6 people per month lost their life in drowning incidents which is of great concern.
Naisoro later mentioned that this the reason why the police force continues to stress that people must not take their environment or situations for granted. While it may seem safe to swim in rivers having the necessary safety skills and supervision is vital.
