The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Dr Mahendra Reddy expressed his appreciation to the Japanese government for their continued assistance towards the development of education in Fiji.
This week the Minister on behalf of the Fijian Government received the newly constructed classroom and few other amenities at Sigatoka Valley High School from the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji H.E Takuji Hanatani.
The Embassy of Japan through the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme spent a little over $190,000 and assisted Sigatoka Valley High School with the construction of a three classroom block with an inbuilt office and a library, furniture, ablution block and a hand wash facility.
In delivering his address, the Ambassador of Japan, Mr.Takuji Hanatani reminded the community, teachers and students on the importance of education.
“These facilities are only the physical component. Excellence in education can only be realized through commitment of teachers, diligent students and support from their families as well as the community. To the students, I urge you to work hard up to the best of your abilities, not only academically but also in extra-curricular activities towards ensuring a brighter future for yourselves,”remarked the Ambassador of Japan.
The Honourable Minister for Education expressed his appreciation to the Japanese Ambassador and the government of Japan for their enormous contribution in meeting the development needs at Sigatoka Valley High School. The Honourable Minister also highlighted the major reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Education to ensure that the Fijian education system is made vibrant and responsive to the students’ needs and aspirations.
“Indeed, this is a proud moment for all of us. A moment where we witness the revival of hope and the resurgence of a bright future for the children of Nasesevia district. To the 258 students of Sigatoka Valley High School, another part of history is written today and you should be proud to be part of it. The government of Japan, Fiji, the management and the community have toiled hard to give you what you have today, utilise the facilities well and pursue your dreams so you can positively contribute to the community that has sacrificed to provide a pathway of learning for you.” concluded the Honourable Minister for Education.
