A 47 year old farmer of Qelemumu Labasa is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim.
The victim was allegedly swept away by strong currents when he tried to cross a river to get to his home at about 6.00pm on Saturday February 7.
The alarm was raised by a witness and the matter was reported to Police. The victim’s body was retrieved about 1.5 meters away from the exact place where he tried to cross.
Investigations continue to ascertain the cause of death.
The drowning death toll currently stands at 3 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
