The Hon. Assistant Minister for Health & Medical Services Veena Bhatnagar today encouraged residents of Tavua to fill in registration forms to qualify and benefit from Government’s “Free Medicine Program”.
The Program assists individuals who earn less than $20,000 per annum, including dependent children and other dependent persons to access selected medicines from the Government Hospitals, Dispensaries and selected private pharmacies free of charge.
The Assistant Minister called on residents to apply for the program after questions relating to medicines were posed to her at public consultations held in Tavua.
“We have received minimal forms so we encourage you to fill in the forms should you qualify to benefit from the program”, Assistant Minister Bhatnagar said.
“There are 72 medicines on the list that you will be able to obtain free of cost. Once this initiative is up and running, obtaining medicines from pharmacies will be faster. We also understand that there are incidences were by there is a shortage of medicines. However this at times is due to supply issues from the manufactures”.
“The Health Ministry continues to work very hard to address this issue”.
Members of the public are advised to obtain application forms should they qualify for the Free Medicine Program or can contact their nearest health centre for further information.
