The Ministry of Rural & Maritime Development and National Disaster permanent secretary Mr Filipe Alifereti announced the appointment of the Divisional Commissioners.
The following appointments were announced :
- Mr Manasa Tagicakibau, Director National Disaster Management as Divisional Commissioner Western;
- Mr Luke Moroivalu, acting Commissioner Western as Divisional Commissioner Eastern;
- Mr Meleti Bainimarama, acting Deputy Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister as Divisional Commissioner Central.
- Mr Jovesa Vocea, 1st Secretary, Fiji’s Embassy to Japan as Divisional Commissioner Northern.
Mr Alifereti said the appointment of the Divisional Commissioners is important to accelerate growth in rural and remote areas and in meeting the demand of the people.
“The new appointees bring with them a wealth of experience and professionalism as they have served in the various areas of rural development,” Mr Alifereti said.

The Ministry is confident that the new appointees will strengthen the role of the organization in the coordination and facilitation of rural and maritime development and also manage disaster.
The appointment of the Commissioners becomes effective from the 24th of December, 2014, however, Mr Vocea will take up his appointment from July 2015, while Mr Alipate Bolalevu, the Divisional Planning Officer Northern will continue to act as Divisional Commissioner Northern.
