Investigators have been told to re-look all their files by Director Criminal Investigations Department SSP Vakacegu Toduadua, and to explore the possibility of charging parents or guardians for negligence due to the high number of drowning victims being children.
Despite repeated advisories and warnings for the close monitoring of children the sad reality is that 25out of 75 drowning fatalities in 2012 were children under 10 years of age.
This has prompted the issuance of the directive to investigators to relook at the files involving children and submit the outcomes of their investigators to the Director’s office who will then decide on the next course of action.
