The Minister for Youth and Sports Honourable Laisenia Tuitubou held informal talks with the villagers of Kese Village in the district of Naviti, Yasawa.
While opening the special talanoa session with villagers, he reiterated government’s commitment to the overall development of all Fijians.
“This government serves all people regardless of geographical location, status or creed,” Mr Tuitubou said.
“One word which can best describe the service of this government is inclusivity, which I reiterate to all the communities I have visited so far,” he added.
Minister Tuitubou also reaffirmed government’s commitment to develop the lives of Fijians living in rural and remote areas across the country.
“Government will always strive for inclusiveness in its assistance and we will see what is available to us so we can provide the much needed assistance,” he said.
He told villagers that their visit was to hear their needs and past grievances.
“We are here to hear your needs and any grievances you may have and we will go back and work with the relevant government ministries and departments so that your needs are addressed,” he said.
Minister Tuitubou also urged villagers to work with government.
“I urge you to work with us because we also need your assistance so we can accomplish our goals and I look forward to working with you,” he said.
“I challenge you youths to think about what you intend to do with regards to the projects you want to undertake to improve income generation and for your overall development as young people.
The Minister also reminded villagers of the availability of training courses for youths and villagers in rural areas.
Villagers brought up issues faced such as the need for a Class VI boat masters workshop, a request for brush cutters, solar panels for electricity and water pumping along with the request for a basic hospitality course.
Issues brought up by youths were that of the need for more youth workers to serve the islands of Yasawa and also that of a telecentre for students.
