By ROLAND KOROI

23 police officers from ten different countries around the Pacific region will for the first time, converge at the Hexagon Hotel in Nadi from next week for the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre’s two week regional police training program.

Sponsored by the Australian Federal Police the two week training will focus on gender, violence against women, human rights and the law. Domestic violence, rape, sexual harassment and child abuse will also be discussed.

There will also be deliberations on the existing laws that deal with violence against women and girls, from the different countries represented.  Australian Federal Police will deliver a presentation on Family Violence Intervention and Victims of Crime considerations.

The training is in line with Pacific governments and development agencies commitment to developing prevention and response strategies towards the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.

This training also aims to sensitize regional police officers to develop better responses towards reports of violence against women and girls.

The training is from 29 September to 10 October.
