The launch of Karate Fiji’s partnership with Sun Insurance earlier today saw a cheque of $10,000 presented by Mr. Lolesh Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Sun Insurance, to Mrs. Makarita Lenoa, President of Karate Fiji.

Also present at the launch were Sun Insurance’s Mr. Jai Maharaj and Mr. Tarlochan Singh, and Karate Fiji’s Pita Lenoa, a senior athlete who is also a WKF accredited coach in both Kata and Kumite; Lemeki Lenoa, Referee Chairperson; Seremaia Tuqiri, Vice President, and Angela Birch, General Secretary, and members of the media.

Mrs. Lenoa informed all present that ‘in order to continue to grow, Karate Fiji required support from partners, and thanked Sun Insurance for their trust in supporting a growing sport’.

Mr. Sharma acknowledged that ‘minor sports receive very little support, and in assisting Karate Fiji they were helping to develop a minority sport’.

Next week sees the arrival of Karate Fiji’s Mentor Coach, Sensei Tony Hails, who returns to work with Team Fiji for the Oceania Karate Championship.

His trip coincides with the annual ‘National Karate Championship in partnership with Sun Insurance’ which is scheduled for Saturday, 23 August. From 11-13 September, the Oceania Karate Championship will be held in the Vodafone Arena.
