The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Christopher Pryde, has announced the appointment of former British lawyer, Lee Burney, as the fourth Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Mr Pryde, in welcoming the new ADPP said that Mr Burney adds value to the ODPP team with his experience of over 20 years in private practice and public service.
“Mr Burney brings with him considerable criminal advocacy experience. Before embarking on a career in public service with the British Army Legal Services, where he was prosecuting cases at home and abroad, he practiced private law in Hong Kong for 15 years,” said Mr Pryde.
Mr Pryde said that Mr Burney’s appointment will contribute significantly to the continued growth of the ODPP as a professional organization and his experience in training and mentoring will be of particular value.
Mr Burney, originally from England, graduated in Law (Honours) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1988 and is admitted to practice law, both in England and Hong Kong.
Mr Burney said that he was looking forward to serving the people of Fiji.
“It is a great privilege to join the dedicated team at the ODPP and to serve the people of Fiji. I am particularly looking forward to assisting in the progressive professional development of the talented team of prosecutors within the office,” said Mr Burney.
He joins three other ADPP’s: Mosese Korovou, Vinsent Perera and Michael Delaney, at the ODPP headquarters in Suva.
