Peacekeeping work carried out by Fijian troops serving in the Sinai region has been praised by His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

As the Fijian Head of State rounded up his tour visiting troops serving in various peacekeeping missions in the Middle East, he thanked them for their service and for upholding Fiji’s historic commitment to peacekeeping missions.

He pointed out that every Fijian was proud of the sacrifices made by each peacekeeping troop serving around the world.

As he left this week, the President reminded the troops that he brought with him the well wishes of every Fijian, including their families. He also highlighted the importance of their role in maintaining peace and security in the region.

Ratu Epeli was accorded a guard of honor by members of the 2nd Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment at the Al Gora camp airfield as he completed the tour.

More than 330 Fijian troops serve in the Sinai region under the Multinational Force of Observers, commonly known as the MFO. Fiji has been serving in this region since the 1980s and is the third largest troop-contributing nation from the 13 countries that serve under MFO Sinai mission.

The President will schedule a separate trip to visit troops serving in other volatile regions across the world.
