Raising up your creative voice

Fiji National University and the US Embassy  hosted an Arts Workshop on UniStudio Campus in Raiwai.

The theme for the workshop was ”Discovering your creative voice through the arts”.

The workshop was attended by retired civil servants, students – primary, secondary and tertiary, FNU staff, USP students, housewives, advocates and other art savvy individuals.

Dr Bupesh Little of the College of Humanities and Education said in his opening remarks that arts are useful in making a statement about issues or things that needs addressing.

“Arts is about creativity; developing your vision to approach a unique subject different from others.

“It is the use of imagination, creativity, ideas and thoughts to put forth a statement worth knowing,” he said.

The workshop was conducted by art teacher and former slam poetry champion for Oregon, Us, James (Mobo) Graham, the with founder and creative director of Rise Up international, Jesse Roberts.

Mr Graham said art is contagious.

“Every individual has a signature voice and design; Fijians have a rare gift and are „jewels for harmony‟,” he said.

The duo have been in Fiji imparting their artistic knowledge and skills at Labasa, Nadi and Suva including most recently at the popular school‟s annual Coca Cola Games at the ANZ National Stadium, Suva.

The workshop ended  on Thursday, May 2nd, 2014.
