Solomon Islander, Silas Tuaviri missed his family as he received his Trade Diploma in Marine Engineering (Watch-keeper) Certificate during the Fiji National University graduation last week.
Tuaviri said leaving his family behind for studies in Fiji was a challenge. But he said he was happy to have received his certificate from FNU.
“I really wished my family was here to see me graduate,” he said.
Tuaviri said there were many challenges while studying away from home but it had paid off.
He studied under a Solomon Islands government scholarship for two years.
Another Solomon Islander, Gabriel Leon, who graduated in the same programme, said they had completed the mission they came for.
He said what they learnt at FNU was recognised in most Pacific island countries.
“I am very excited and this is a very big achievement for me,” Mr Leon said.
