Dr Colin Tukuitonga, Director-General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), together with Mr Moses Amos, Director of SPC’s Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystem Division paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Edward Nipake NATAPEI, Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade on Tuesday 01 April 2014 in Port Vila.
The purpose of the courtesy meeting is to reaffirm the SPC’s commitment to serve and help its member countries to be able to position themselves to respond effectively to the challenges they face and make informed decisions about their future and the future they wish to leave for the generations that follow.
Dr Colin Tukuitonga, and Mr Moses Amos, also visited the Secretariat of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and met with the Director General of the MSG, Mr. Peter FORAU, the Deputy Director General of MSG, and the MSG Director of Strategic Partnerships. The visit is to reaffirm and assure the MSG Leadership of the SPC’s commitments and the importance for both the MSG and SPC to jointly progress projects in priority areas as soon as possible.
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the Melanesian Spearhead Group share a mutual and an excellent long standing relationship. This relationship materialised into a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 17 July 2012, where both the SPC and MSG agreed to work closely to maximise effective cooperation and efficiency, and reduce duplication in delivering services to their mutual members within their respective mandates.
Dr. Tukuitonga and Mr. Forau agreed for SPC and MSG to convene a meeting in the near future to identify and agree on specific joint projects based on the MSG and the SPC Strategic Plans.
