The Fiji Police would like to advise members of the public to be extra cautious about purchasing electronic items and mobile devices from unauthorized dealers.
Recently there has been a notable increase in burglary reports whereby items commonly targeted are laptops, mobile phones and other popular electronic devices.
Upon investigations police revealed that the items were sold at much lower prices and after the goods were tracked down, recipients who purchased the goods not only lost out on the item but their hard earned money.
It has been noted that the main reason as to why these robberies continue to take place is due to an existing market that is believed to be where most unauthorized dealers usually sell gadgets to earn a quick buck.
While police continue to plead with members of the public to ensure their valuables are kept safe at all times, they are at the same time calling on those who may want to save a few dollars on buying such items from off the streets and unauthorized or online dealers to think twice before doing so.
Issues to think about before making such purchases include, knowing the particulars and identity of the person selling the item, the cost of item being sold especially if it’s going at a low rate and the condition of such items.
Police are advising members of the public not to purchase such items online unless it is from a legitimate supplier or dealer.
