The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola is in Brussels to attend the International Conference on Genocide Prevention to be held on March 31 and April 1.
The Conference is being attended by Government Ministers and many distinguished experts on Genocide from all over the world including leaders of major international organisations such as the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The Conference aims to address the issue to repeated cases of mass atrocities despite the exposure of these crimes against humanity in the international arena.
The Conference will focus on the status of academic research on genocide, an integrated international human rights law from an international criminal law perspective, the role of civil society, and parliament and institutional responses to genocide.
Upon arrival into Brussels, the Minister was briefed by Fiji’s Ambassador to Belgium, H.E. Peceli Vocea at Fiji’s Embassy in preparation for the Conference and on the key areas of work the Mission is currently engaged in, including an update on work of the newly appointed Honorary Consul in Luxembourg and outcomes of the recent meeting with European External Action Service.
Mr. Phillip Thomas, Fiji’s Honorary Consul in Luxembourg will be meeting the Minister on Sunday to provide a more in-depth brief on the various anticipated projects of interest for Fiji.
The Minister was also updated on the progress of the new mission being setup in Geneva, Switzerland due to open in May this year
A brief was also provided to the Minister on key ACP-EU meetings envisaged for the coming months.
