Six candidates will be vying for 3 vacant spots on the Board of Fiji’s national umbrella body, FASANOC at its Annual General Assembly that will be held tomorrow afternoon at Olympic House, Suva.
FASANOC President, Reg Sanday says of the three vacant slots, two are for Olympic sports only, and one is for a Non Olympic sport. This is to comply with amendments to the FASANOC Charter made at the Annual General Assembly last year.
For Olympic sports those vying for the two slots are: Andrew Pene, President of Fiji Triathlon, Ms Ofa Tabunakawai from Fiji Womens’ Golf, Harvie Probert, a current sitting member, nominated by Fiji Swimming and former Fiji Rugby Union, CEO, Manasa Baravilala nominated by Boxing Fiji.
Sanday said one of the candidates for Olympic sports, Mr Vuli Waqa from Athletics Fiji withdrew his nomination today.
The two candidates vying for the one slot for Non Olympic Sports are both current sitting members, Ms Radhika Prasad of Bowls Fiji and Ms Makarita Lenoa of Karate Fiji.
The meeting tomorrow will also approve FASANOC’s annual statement of accounts that shows the organization made a surplus of some $67,000 last year which, the President said was not bad given that the organization budgeted for a deficit in some major events like the Fiji Games.
The Annual General Assembly will also discuss a revision of FASANOC’s strategic plan.
