The Embassy of France in Suva is happy to welcome two members of the Posuë Dance Company of New Caledonia to Fiji.
With the assistance of the New Caledonian Government and the Embassy of France, the duo, Soufiane Karim and Siman Wénéthem, are here to take part in Fiji’s first International Dance Festival organised by the University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies (OCACPS) this week.
The Posuë Dance Company is committed to training hip-hop dancers through and for choreographic productions based on the hip-hop genre and linked to Pacific Culture. Their shows are narrative, which allows viewers to learn about traditional culture while sitting in a hip-hop show.
The duo will also be sharing their talent and knowledge through organised workshops at the University.
“Cooperation through art allows us to reach a wider audience as it is inclusive and disregards differences in race, language and even age,” stated the Embassy’s Head of Culture, Education and Science Section, Emmanuelle Charrier.
“The Embassy of France is proud to support the only French-speaking Pacific group here for the inaugural International Dance Festival and hope to have more participation from the French-speaking Pacific in the coming years.”
France’s territories in the Pacific – New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis&Futuna -represent 500 000 people; a small proportion of the 220 million French speakers worldwide.
