Secondary schools within the Nadi boundary gathered at Prince Charles Park for the two day Nadi Coca Cola games competition (20-21 March, 2014).
“We need to improve on our teams fitness techniques for the relay events in order to compete for the upcoming games in Suva,” said Korovuto College Team Coach Solo Ravasakula.
Korovuto College successfully scooped the overall girls’ title with 12 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals whereas Ratu Navula College claimed the overall boys’ title with12 gold, 8 silver and 12 bronze medals.
“We are trying to get students together on Saturdays and also invite specialist coaches’ whereby they can guide and coach students individually, Mr. Hatch of International Secondary School has already agreed to train the long distance runners and we might rake in a few more field coaches,”said Competition Media Officer Navneet Mishra.
Meanwhile Sabeto College’s Paula Raseru was awarded best male athlete after winning a gold medal in the 400m, 800m as well as the 4x 400 meters relay and Korovuto College’s Iliseva Sura was similarly awarded with best female athlete for claiming a gold medal for her triple victory in the 400m, 800m and 4x400m relay.
Mr. Mishra Further added that it was important for schools to collectively develop and improve training techniques in terms of western schools stamping their mark in the imminent Coca Cola games final competitions.
