Digicel welcomes first baby at new maternity unit

Digicel Fiji’s commercial director, Andrew Skelton is seen presenting the prize to the mother of the first baby born at the newly refurbished maternity unit.

March 20th 2014 – As the nurses at CWM and staff of Digicel celebrated the newly refurbished CWM unit on Friday 14th March, Ilisapeci Tuba from Namoka Settlement, Nabukaluka village in Naitasiri also rejoiced at the arrival of her baby not long after the Health Minister Dr. Neil Sharma officially unveiled the new unit at 11:36 am. Born at 12:43 pm, just 1 hour 7 minutes after the launch, a healthy baby boy weighing 3.5 kilos entered the world in the middle of joyful celebrations and was the first baby born at the maternity unit to mark the official opening.

Digicel also provided Ilisapeci Tuba with a Samsung Galaxy 4 preloaded with $100 credit per month for the next 5 years.  Digicel Head of Marketing, Sheryl Singh who was truly elated at the arrival of the new baby said ‘’ the arrival of the baby made it a special day for us, just as special as it was across the maternity unit for other first arrivals that day.  Our warm congratulations go to all the families whose babies were also born later that day.’’

The new baby boy hails from a village where some of Fiji’s rugby 7’s stars come from. Mosese Luveitasau is from Nabukaluka Village and he was the first Fijian rugby player to play with the Cardiff Blues in Wales in late 1999 – 2000.

There was a real buzz at the hospital as Digicel staff members made the day extra special by distributing baby packs to all new mothers and mothers awaiting the arrival of their babies.
