The Consumer Council of Fiji is calling on all  the mobile phone users to join them for  the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) celebrations which will be held at the University of the South Pacific, today.

This year’s focus is on the mobile telecommunication sector, with the theme “Fix Our Phone Rights”.

The Council together with the Software Foundation Fiji will be hosting a “Speak-Out” session, highlighting  consumer  grievances  related  to  mobile  phone  services,  all  in  a  bid  to    promote consumer rights and to bring about a positive change in the telecommunication sector.

The Speak-Out session will involve young adults as the theme is of interest to many young Fijians, most of who are tech-savvy and are active users of mobile phones.

The session will be held at Faculty of Business/Economics, Conference Room, at 10 am and will be officially opened by the Minister responsible for consumer affairs- the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Also invited to the event are the leading  players of  the country’s telecommunication sector , who are also expected to share their views on the issues relating to mobile phone services   such as quality, reliability, accessibility, fairness, and even integrity of mobile services.

The Council envisages an open, fair and meaningful discussion on the issues and to find a way forward for necessary reforms in the mobile industry. Mobile phones have become a part of our lives, therefore, all consumers must stand in solidarity to demand phone rights in order to enjoy better service.
