Representaties of the Fijian Government pay their respects.
Fiji’s Honorary Consul General in Korea, General Woo-Joo Chang passed away in Seoul yesterday at the age of 86.
General Chang was Fiji’s Honorary Counsul since 1991. He also served as the representative of the Fiji Visitors Bureau in Korea. Due to his extraordinary service to Fiji, he was awarded the National Independent Medal and the Companion of the Order of Fiji in 1995 and 2002 respectively.
“He had served Fiji well in its relations with the Republic of Korea and has achieved a lot for the country before the establishment of the Fiji Embassy in Seoul in 2012. Fiji had been privileged to engage such a person of his calibre to be its Honourary Consul General in Korea since 1991”, Fiji’s Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said.
General Chang is a well known person in Korea and served in numerous capacities, including Assistant Minister of Defence and President of the Hyundai Corporation and Founder of the Korean American Business Institute. Apart from his military training, he graduted from Harvard Business School.
He is survived by his wife, five children and seven grand children. His funeral will be held on Thursday, 6th February in Daejeon.
The Fijian Government paid its respect to the family headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola accompanied by Fiji’s Ambassador to Korea, HE Filimone Kau.
