(NATADOLA, FIJI) Wednesday 05 February 2014 – InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and three Natadola Bay community schools –Rahmatullah Khan Memorial School, Tuva Primary School and Malomalo Primary School, welcomed the 2014 school year with newly painted kindergartens, inspirational feature walls and brand new floor mats as part of the resort’s Community Care fund project.

Designed to inspire imagination and create a supportive learning environment, each kindergarten chose a different theme to decorate their walls.  TuvaIndianSchool chose a mural theme of numbers, letters, words and visual games while Rahmatullah KhanMemorialSchool chose to have their playroom painted as an ‘Underwater Wonderland’.

MalomaloPrimary School chose a ‘Jungle Safari’ theme for their mural.  “It was important that the mural featured not only animals native to the FijiIslands, but wildlife of the world, as we want to encourage the children to explore the world around them,” said Master Naivalu, head teacher of MalomaloPrimary School.

Local artist and talent behind the murals, Timoci Sokoiwasa was able to turn vision into reality, completing all three themed murals in only two weeks.

“The children are delighted with their new classroom,” Master Naivalu continued.  “Timoci did a great job and we can’t thank the resort and those who support the Community Care Fund enough for their generosity.”

Moved by the children on a recent visit to MalomaloPrimary School, a recent guest of the resort has also donated a brand new pair of shoes to each child to begin the school year.

General Manager of the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Scott Williams said that the resort is looking forward to continuing their work with schools in the NatadolaBay community in the New Year.

“The Malomalo School Tour is one of the ‘In The Know’ experiences we offer here at the resort and we’re thrilled to see our resort guests actively engaging with our projects to help create a brighter future for these communities.”

Affectionately known as ‘The People’s Resort’ due to its ownership by The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) the resort has been working with the school since it opened in 2009 and runs a long-term ‘Community Care’ fund which finances numerous projects.
