Attorney-General and Minister for Communications Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be representing Fiji at back-to-back international telecommunications conferences in Bangkok this week.

The first is the Connect Asia-Pacific Conference, on 18 November, and the second is the ITU Telecom World Conference, which runs from 19 -22 November.

The Attorney-General will be giving presentations at both conferences where he will outline the Bainimarama Government’s reforms of the ICT sector, which have won international acclaim for delivering services and infrastructure to the Fijian people.

Speaking before the event, the Attorney-General said that this was a particularly exciting time for ICT development in Fiji.

“The Prime Minister’s announcement of free primary and secondary education, together with a loan scheme for tertiary education, means that more money than ever before will be pumped into the education sector, allowing schools and universities to invest more in ICT equipment and training than they have been able to in the past,” he said.

The Attorney-General said that this will help train Fijian students with the necessary skills to compete in the modern job market, as well as create new opportunities for them and investors in the ICT sector.
