The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is again hosting the Young Ambassdors Programme on the occasion of the second edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which will be held in Nanjing, China, from August 16 – 28 August 2014.
The first edition of the Programme was held in Singapore in 2010.
FASANOC is pleased to announce the selection of Ms Matelita Buadromo as Fiji’s Young Ambassador to the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China.
The primary role of the Young Ambassador is to encourage the athletes to actively participate in a number of learning experiences that will take place in parallel to the competition programme of the YOG.
The IOC has built upon the lessons from Singapore and Innsbruck (1st Winter Youth Olympic Games) and is convinced that the role of each Young Ambassador is central to the success of the YOG. The IOC is confident that the Young Ambassadors Programme will offer a unique, life changing experience to all participating athletes.
In the true spirit of the YOG mission, the IOC wishes to engage with young athletes and other young participants and inspire them to play an active role in their communities.
Fiji’s Young Ambassador for the 2010 Singapore YOG had been Norman Bentley from the Fiji Badminton Association.
In preparation for her role as a Youth Ambassador Ms Buadromo’s will be travelling with Team Fiji’s Chef De Mission, Carl Probert, to attend a Young Ambassadors’ Seminar which is being held in conjunction with the Chefs De Mission Seminar, in Nanjing in March next year.
At this Seminar she will learn more about the importance of Young Ambassdors and get to test the many learning and cultural acitivites planned for the 2014 Summer YOG, as well as meet and share ideas with other Young Ambassdors.

2014 NANJING YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES, CHINA – YOUNG REPORTERS PROGRAMME
Another programme that was very successful during the Singapore YOG was the Young Reports Programme and where Fiji was represented by Rashneel Kumar of the Fiji Times who had his first experience of participating in an Olympic Movement activity during the 2010 YOG. Only one nomination from the Oceania region will be selected for the Young Reporters Programme and FASANOC is waiting on advice on its nomination.
