The 6th Annual Pacific Water Conference and Expo is currently underway in Rarotonga, Cook Islands and the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) Chief Executive Officer Mr Opetaia Ravai who is also the Chairman of the Pacific Water and Wastes Association (PWWA) is attending this weeklong conference.
There are about 22 Pacific Island countries who are members of the PWWA and WAF is by far the largest water utility with over 141,000 active water connections and 28,200 wastewater connections.
Some of the key issues discussed in the workshop are energy efficiency, leakage detection, appropriate sanitation & wastewater treatment in the Pacific, non-revenue water workshop and also addressing climate change impacts and gender issues on Pacific water supply services.
Also discussed at the conference are the benchmarking results and the overall performance of the 22 utilities since July 2013.
Some keynote speakers include major water utility donors from the World Bank, AusAID, NZ AID, European Union and Asian Development Bank.
In addition, speakers from Fiji’s twining partners Hunter Water Australia and Midcoast Water Australia will also address members of the conference.
The conference is scheduled from the 11th to the 15th of November, 2013 with the theme “Pacific Water Cooperation”
