15 October 2013. A training program to improve employment opportunities for sugar industry dependents will soon be underway through a funding agreement between the European Union and Australian Government.
Acting Australian High Commissioner Glenn Miles and Deputy Director General of EuropeAid Marcus Cornaro signed a Declaration of Intent today in Suva for a €4 million program to assist up to 1500 people directly affected by changes in the sugar industry.
The Australian-Pacific Technical College (APTC) will implement the program on behalf of the Australian aid program, supported by EU funding.
“I am delighted with this agreement for Australia to implement an important initiative funded by the European Union. Such arrangements are significant in the drive for greater aid effectiveness in Fiji,” said Mr Cornaro, Deputy Director General of EuropeAid.
“The Australian Aid Program is pleased with this engagement, as it indicates the strengthening of a partnership between two of the region’s major development agencies”, said Mr Miles, the Acting Australian High Commissioner.
