WWF-South Pacific is partnering up with the Uprising Beach Resort for our first ever Green Fiji Day competition.
The online competition would promote a re-use concept for Fiji Day celebrations and Uprising has agreed to sponsor the major prize, accommodation and meals for two.
Alfred Christoffersen, Uprising Beach Resort General Manager, said they were pleased to be part of another “fantastic” WWF-South Pacific initiative.
“We are happy to support WWF in their continuous work to engage people, teach them something constructive and positive, and reward them for doing so,” Mr Christoffersen said.
“Keeping people engaged and learning, based on an initiative that will benefit the planet, and benefit us all, however small this may be, will make a difference, and Uprising really identifies with this.
“Working together to keep Fiji clean, and help preserve the planet for future generations is very important and we will be supporting this next year for sure,” he added.
WWF-South Pacific Communications Manager, Patricia Mallam, welcomed the resort’s support and said the locally owned establishment had always been a keen supporter of WWF’s mission, “To stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature”.
“Their willingness to help advocate for a Green Fiji, through their in-kind support, is well received and is an example of how the private sector can work with NGOs like ourselves,” Ms Mallam said.
She added the competition would help people celebrate Fiji Day with a difference by “reviving a sense of pride Fijians feel for our country, by creating something out of materials that can be recycled and sharing it”.
The competition runs from 7-12 October, and encourages people to recycle items they longer use to make a Fiji flag, bunting or any other art form, that would show their love for Fiji.
Pictures of recycled creations would then be sent via the WWF-South Pacific Facebook page and the winners will be announced on 15 October.
Ms Mallam said this was a chance for people to be creative in terms of re-using what was already available, as opposed to buying new things and keeping our carbon footprint low, even when in celebration mode.
The second prize is a lunch for two at I Crave Bistro and the third prize is a WWF gift pack.
