Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola hosted a Ministerial reception for Group of 77 and China Foreign Ministers on the evening of 26 September.
Fiji’s Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama also attended the event.
High level attendees at the reception included the President of Nauru, Baron Waqa, the Prime Minister of Tonga, Lord Tu’ivakano, the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Néstor Osorio, and the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Jan Eliasson.
Attendees took this opportunity to thank Minister Kubuabola for his successful chairmanship of the annual G77 Ministerial Meeting that was held earlier in the day. The meeting formally accepted the Republic of Kiribati as its newest member, bringing the G77 membership to 133 countries.
The meeting also adopted the G77 Ministerial declaration which outlines the Group position over a wide range of issues that will be pursued in the coming years.
