In a bid to fully understand the operations and functions of the Fiji Police Force, the two Chinese officers currently on attachment here are starting their divisional tour in the old capital this morning.
Police supervisors Cheng Ping and Feng Xinwen arrived into the country in late June this year a direct outcome of the growing relations between the Fiji Government and the People’s Republic of China.
The three month attachment program is also an outcome of the MOU between China and Fiji in April 2011 whereby the Fiji Police and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security have undergone this three month attachment program.
The two officers have been familiarising themselves with the various Units in the Central and Southern Division and this morning the two started their Divisional tour in Levuka.
The officers who are members of the Guangdong Province Police Force both have extensive experience in various policing units and will be spending the next two weeks in the Eastern and Northern Division getting a feel of operations on the ground and the different challenges the officers face in their respective area of operation.
Since their attachment the two officers from the Ministry of Public Security have been instrumental in international Police operations where the outcomes have been the arrests of fugitives wanted for various crimes in China.
The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua says having the two officers share their knowledge and expertise has been valuable.
“Having the two officers here with us is part of our plans of learning from other Policing jurisdictions and they have indeed been of great assistance and our officers continue to learn from them”.
