Thursday 22 August – To add spice to this Saturday’s Digicel Cup rugby final between defending champions Nadroga and Suva, the Special Administrators of Sigatoka and Suva have a bet in place.
Sigatoka Town Special Administrator, Mr. Jay Whyte put forward a bet to his Suva City counterpart, Mr. Chandu Umaria, who graciously accepted the challenge.
The winner of Saturday’s Digicel Cup final will see the opposing Special Administrator have to wear the champion’s jersey or shirt to work next Monday.
“I felt that another exciting way to build interest would be to put something on the line and that was to challenge my counterpart in Suva to this bet,” said Mr. Whyte.
“This certainly takes the excitement level surrounding finals rugby to another notch and it’s great to see the two Special Administrators challenging each other to this bet,” said Digicel Fiji’s head of marketing, Ms. Sheryl Singh.
“I feel very confident that Nadroga will annihilate the Suva team and leave me to sit back and watch Mr. Umaria wear the beautiful black and white Nadroga jersey to work on Monday,” added Mr. Whyte.
“I’m confident that the Suva team will rise to the occasion and give Nadroga a good-go in the final at Lawaqa Park, and I’m also confident that the Digicel Cup will be travelling to Suva on Saturday afternoon,” said Mr. Umaria.
“I want to tell my counterpart to ask the Nadroga Rugby Union to polish the Digicel Cup before it travels to Suva on Saturday,” said Mr.Umaria.
“And Mr. Whyte can go and get a beautiful blue Suva jersey for himself and I’ll pay for it because his surely wearing that next Monday,” added Mr. Umaria.
Nadroga will be hoping to land their fourth Digicel Cup crown since its inception in 2008.
The Esala Nauga coached Stallions who topped the Digicel Cup points table and won $5000.00 for that had thumped Suva 30 – 16 in round-robin play last May.
“I know that a lot of people are saying ‘Suva Nene’ but in Nadroga it’s ‘Hakwa Nadro’ all day, every day,” said a super confident Mr. Whyte.
The winner of Saturday’s Digicel Cup final will receive $17,000.00 while the runner-up gets $5,000.00.
