The National Fire Authority (NFA) last night responded to a fire call from the Queen Victoria School that one of their dormitories was on fire.
NFA received the fire call from QVS at 2102hours and immediately deployed three teams from Nausori, Valelevu and the Suva Fire Station. When the first fire team arrived at 2158hours, one of the dormitory (Rewa House Senior Boys) was fully engulfed with flames.
The dormitory was empty when the fire started. The students were studying in their classroom when they noted flames coming out of the building.
NFA CEO John O’Connor who was at the site said they had put out the fire completely and ensured it did not spread to nearby dormitories.
NFA thanked the Teachers and Students for taking precautions and evacuating the other dormitories taking into consideration that the fire could spread to the other dormitories.
NFA investigations are now underway to determine the cause of this fire incident.
