Last week Friday, the Namaka Methodist Kindergarten held a Soli & Fun Day initiated by the school committee and the parents of the children attending in order to raise funds to provide the school with much needed items and equipment.
The Kindergarten is managed by the Methodist Church of Fiji and is under the Namaka Circuit. The total student number is 98 and has a very diverse multi-cultural background in both students and teachers . Currently, three teachers are working at the school.
There was a shortage in school supplies and equipment at the school due to the large number of students who attend, hence the reason for a fundraising initiative titled the Soli & Fun day. The money which was raised is planned to be used in order to purchase more classroom equipment such as tables, chairs, stationery and school books for the children. The school also plans to use the money in order to rebuild and refurbish the school playground, damaged during the cyclone season last year.
The very young and enthusiastic students of the school were divided into four different house colours, with a target of reaching $1 500FJD per house. At the end of the Fun day, the school managed to successfully raise a total of $6 766.60FJD, reaching their target goal and even surpassing it by nearly $800.

“We are very thankful to the following organizations who contributed financially and in kind – Air Terminal Services, Mrs Rosie Whitton of Rosie Holidays, Consumers Supermarket, Rajvi Limited, Danny’s Seafood, Goodman Fielder and M Recht Accessories, Real Forex Exchange, Bakels (Fiji) ltd , Namaka Border Police” said Inise Mucunabitu, a member of the school-committee. “not forgetting the NCD unit in Namaka, National Fire Authority Nadi and the Nadi Police Dog unit who came to display their roles to the children”.
The huge success of the fun day means that students will be able to enjoy a more academic background and also a better learning environment.
Friends, Families, Circuit members as well as old scholars turned out in big numbers to support the children and the school.
