A testimony of the success of Government’s Look North Policy the Fiji Police Force will be home to two officers from the China Police in its current effort to learn from other policing jurisdictions.
Police Supervisors Mr Chen Ping and Mr Feng Xinwen will be on attachment with the Fiji Police Force over the next three months in coordination with the Chinese Embassy in Suva.
The two arrived into the country last week and have been spending the first few days familiarizing themselves with the various Units within the Fiji Police.
Mr Chen is a Criminal Investigation officer while his comrade Mr Feng has a extensive experience in various policing units and are both from the Guangdong Police and are in Fiji on behalf of the Ministry of Public Security.
In welcoming the officers, Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua says the attachment of the two officers from the renowned Guangdong province of China is a historic event for the organisation.
“This is the first time we will have such a working relationship with other Police jurisdictions apart from the usual jurisdictions and as such it is very significant and an excellent start towards what possibly is long working relationship between the two countries”.
The two officers will not only be working with the various units but will be sent to other Divisions to get an idea of the different policing districts in Fiji.
The head of the Force says Fiji will gain a lot from this partnership.
“The Chinese Police are well known for providing specialised training and having the two officers who bring with them their experience and expertise will be a major boost for us”.
Last year the Fiji Police Force hosted a delegation from the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department in China to hold bilateral talks on further strengthening relations between the two organisations.
“This is one of the outcomes after the signing of the MOU of police co-operation between China and Fiji in April 2011 and it’s a testament of the friendly relationship the two countries continue to enjoy”, Brigadier General Naivalurua said.
Following the initial meeting the Fiji Police Force has been looking forward to the realization of the MOU between Fiji and China on police co-operation.
Brig-Gen Naivalura says the willingness of the Chinese Government to release two of their senior officers from the Guangdong Police is a positive step towards growing and strengthening bilateral relations with Fiji.
“We are grateful to the People’s Republic of China and the China Police for this show of support that will undoubtedly assist capacity building for the Fiji Police Force”.
Last month a 10 member Fiji Police delegation was sent to the Beijing Police Academy for a two week upskilling course. This is another direct outcome of the MOU signed between the two countries.
