FDPF and Cricket Fiji head to Vanua Levu

Cricket Fiji have been invited by the Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation (FDPF) to join with them to attend the Vanualevu Sports Inclusive Advocacy Program next week.

FDPF advocates for equal rights for Fijian’s with disabilities, as is outlined in the United Nation’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).

Staying in Bua, the delegation will take part in advocacy workshops, educating participants about principles specific to Inclusive Cricket, such as skills and specialised training drills.  The workshops aim to break down the perceived stigma of living with a disability, promote awareness and opportunities individuals with a disability, and educate the community on how individuals with a disability can contribute to and take part in sporting programs.

On Thursday staff will head to Solevu to conduct school clinics, and on Friday there will be a Sports Festival organised for 18 local villages to attend, in which Cricket Fiji will be the only sporting organisation attending.

Cricket Fiji is grateful of the work FDPF do in engaging communities in inclusive sports programs, and for including Cricket Fiji in this wonderful initiative.
