The Makete Grove organizes flea market in the Sugar City Lautoka every last Sunday of the month. The 4th flea market was held on Sunday 23rd June 2013 and there were 11 vendors selling their products.
This month there were more varieties of goods on sale like old musical CDs, electrical items, different types of homemade jams and chutneys apart from the normal cakes, food and clothes that were sold previously. The next flea market will be held on Sunday 28th July 2013 and anyone interested to sell can call Yvette on 9961263 or Tessa on 9237053.
The aim of organizing a Flea Market styled setup was borne from the idea to revive our beautiful city of Lautoka and align to it all the development that is taking place around the city with the aim to support unemployed youths and home based individuals who are budding artists and entrepreneurs of Lautoka, to showcase and sell their merchandise/produce at reasonably low prices.
This is also open to members of the community who would like to do a clean out of their homes and would like to sell their belongings. The initiative is a non-profit generating scheme, merely providing an avenue for the latter.
The Makete Grove committee would like to thank Lautoka City Council for their support and also to the many organizations that have continuously supported us by giving their company tents for us to use; Merchant Finance, Coca Cola, Air Pacific, POPS, Punjas, Fiji Water, Goodman Fielder, Williams & Goslings, Asco Motors, Vodafone, Telecom.
