Girls’ Secondary Schools’ Cricket Tournament promotes Inclusive Cricket

This year the Suva Secondary School Girls’ Cricket Tournament is particularly significant with regards to Cricket Fiji’s Inclusive Cricket Program, as Gospel High School will have two hearing-impaired students playing in their mainstream teams.  This is the first time athletes with a disability will play in a mainstream schools’ cricket tournament.

The Suva Secondary School Girls’ Cricket Tournament kicks off this week, with day one of play to be held at Albert Park on Friday June 28th.

In 2013, eight teams will contest the competition over a six-week period.  Cricket Fiji is aiming for the Tournament to not only be a means of talent identification for their under-19 High Performance Program, but is excited by the prospect of providing young women with regular, fun and inclusive competitive opportunities.  Cricket Fiji also hopes that through playing regular competitive cricket they can help to enhance the girls’ leadership skills, both on and off the field.

The following schools will be participating in the 2013 Tournament:

Adi Cakobau School

Gospel High School

D.A.V. Girls’ School

Lelean Memorial School

Ratu Sukuna Memorial School

Lomary Secondary School

Play on Friday will commence at 2.30pm.
