The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Hon. Rosy Akbar visited 52 year Sharada Nand of Korotari in Labasa to present him with a new wheelchair.
In April this year, the resident of Sikasika settlement in Korotari, Labasa had made a request to the Ministry for a new wheelchair . He was surprised when he saw the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Rosy Akbar personally visit him at his home to present his new wheelchair.
The retired sugarcane farmer became paralyzed after an major operation he received in 2013.
“I am grateful to Ministry for assisting me with this new wheelchair”.
“I am also thankful to the Ministry for assisting me through social welfare program through which I receive $50 Food Voucher and $110 monthly cash allowances. If it wasn’t for the social welfare assistance me and my wife would have found it hard to survive. I am thankful to the government for assisting me to continue with my life,” Mr Nand said.
Minister Akbar said this assistance is aligned with the Ministry’s commitment to reach out and assist the senior citizens who have contributed towards the development of their communities. To date the Ministry has distributed six wheel chairs to the senior citizens and including persons living with disabilities in rural communities.
