Defending Champion Suva won a tough match against Tavua, 29-10, in the first round of Digicel Cup in Sukuna Park in Suva, today.
The young Tavua side gave a good performance but it was not enough to beat the strong Suva side, as they scored five tries to seal their win.
Tavua head coach, Jonetani Savuti said he is proud of his team’s performance.
“I am very happy with the way the boys played against the defending champion, most of them are young and played really well,” he said.
Even though, the hosts played a strong performance but coach, Salimoni Ravouvou feels the boys could have done much better.
“We won but I’m disappointed by the way we played. Tavua prepared well, but we wanted to make a good start in tour first game, but we lacked the coalition and intensity of the game,” he said.
Meanwhile in other matches, Naitasiri won by default against Nadroga, Nadi defeated Tailevu 18-13, Northland defeated Vatukoula 26-17, Ovalau defeated Macuata 32-16, Namosi defeated Lautoka 22-18.
