The Fiji National Schools Swimming Championships will be held this Friday and Saturday (29th and 30th of May), at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Suva.
Thirty-seven schools (both Primary and Secondary) have registered teams with 627 swimmers competing over the two days’ of competition, with teams travelling from the West, and Vanua Levu. Swimmers have registered for 1880 Individual Entries & 181 Relay Entries.
The number of entries in this year’s event is a testament to the development of the sport in Fiji with the number of swimmers representing a more than 20% increase in swimmers registered from 2014.
We wish all swimmers and teams well for the competition and look forward to an exciting meet, as the meet is the qualifying event for selection for the Pacific School Games which will be held in Adelaide, Australia in November.
Last year there were more than 70 records broken, which shows the effect that this kind of event has on the development of swimming in Fiji. With selection of the best swimmers from this year’s event for the Pacific School Games, we expect to see records smashed in the pool.
Gates open at 7.30am and we look forward to a big crowd coming out to support our swimmers. Swim fans and families can also get all the latest news and updates from the Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/fijinationalschoolsswimming).
Our very generous sponsors for the event are Fiji National Sports Commission, Dominion Insurance, Pacific Energy and Universal Electronics. May I take this opportunity to thank our sponsors sincerely for giving our swimmers and officials the opportunity to showcase and develop their skills. This is a tremendous boost towards building responsible future citizens of this country.
Mr. Patrick T Bower.
President.
