This was evident yesterday when FDB handed a $1,000 cheque to the Save the Children’s Fund of Fiji to go towards the rehabilitation of children affected by Tropical Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu.
FDB General Manager Human Resources and Training Mr. Uraia Rasake officiated at the handover to the fund’s Chief Executive Officer Raijeli Nicole.
“As a response to a flyer posted on the internet by Save the Children’s Fund, we decided to collect funds to assist the 60,000 children affected by the cyclone. Donations came from as far as our branches in Taveuni, Rakiraki, Sigatoka, Labasa and here at the head office in Suva,” Mr. Rasake said.
“Prior to the request from the fund for donations, the staff had been proactive in collecting funds and that signifies a genuine concern for our fellow islanders in Vanuatu.”
It was revealed by the fund that their assessment teams were on the ground and have highlighted the immediate need for proper hygienic equipments and basic medical supplies.
“These funds collected as part of this appeal will all go towards much needed medical supplies for those children affected by the cyclone. Besides Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands were also affected,” Save the Children’s Fund chief executive officer Raijeli Nicole said.
As a responsible corporate organisation, FDB continues to support such initiatives to ensure that the well-being of others are taken care of, even of those in the regional community such as Vanuatu.
