The West Agriculture Show which has been officially opened by the Acting Deputy Secretary for Agriculture Development for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Mr Setareki Tale at Garvey Park in Tavua today has a lot to showcase to the farmers and the general public.
The Principal Agriculture Officer Vinesh Kumar said that this is the most awaited and anticipated event for the farmers and stakeholders and the main aim of bringing the show to Tavua was to bring the services of the various divisions, Ministries and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) to showcase new technologies and products.
He said that the three day event this year would be one of the most memorable one for the people as they will witness displays by various government ministries, institutions, NGO’s and the private sector, special demonstrations like animal restraining, milking, live bee on man, oratory contests, pet shows and the show will end with a float display.
Mr Kumar said that the Ministry of Agriculture staff will also provide services that are usually provided through the agriculture offices.
“There is also a farmer’s village where the farmers can bring their produce and sell them. This show is all about bringing everyone together and creating a network where we share our experiences, knowledge and respect each other’s contribution.”
Mr Kumar is urging the people of Tavua and nearby areas to come and witness the various activities taking place at the ground.
Meanwhile a 59 year old farmer from Tavua, Jalesi Vatoga said that he has learnt a lot from the Show today, he learnt the techniques of growing vegetables like Chinese cabbage in bamboo, capsicum in pot plant and ways of planting yam to get a bigger harvest.
