  1.   PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES CICIA STUDENTS FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS – His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, personally congratulated Cicia High School for achieving 100 a percent pass rate in last year’s external examinations.
  2. “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS – KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION”: RATU EPELI – Students of Ratu Mara College, Lakeba, Lau have been urged by His Excellency the President to read the constitution and know their rights as Fijian citizens.
  3.         PS SUGAR TO LEAD FIJIAN DELEGATION TO GLOBAL SUGAR MEETING – The Ministry of Sugar Industry acting permanent secretary Parmesh Chand is leading a high level Fijian Delegation to the 47th International Sugar Organization (ISO) Council Meeting to be held in Guatemala from 2226 June, 2015.

 

 

 

  1. PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES CICIA STUDENTS FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, personally congratulated Cicia High School for achieving 100 a percent pass rate in last year’s external examinations.

The Head of State is touring communities and schools in both Gau and the Lau Group and visited Cicia to meet with the students at the school.

“I would like to personally congratulate you on your achievement in achieving 100 per cent pass rate in the FSFE,” His Excellency told the students.

“Continue to strive for excellence as it will assist you to be successful in life. I also wish to thank the teachers who have made sacrifices and are committed towards your education.”

The School in Mabula, Cicia Island was only one of two schools to have achieved the feat in the Fiji Seventh Form Examinations in 2014.

HE Ratu Epeli will speak to students of Ratu Finau High School on Lakeba Island tomorrow before visiting Moala en route to Suva.

 

 

  1. “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS – KNOW YOUR CONSTITUTION”: RATU EPELI

Students of Ratu Mara College, Lakeba, Lau have been urged by His Excellency the President to read the constitution and know their rights as Fijian citizens.

“Take time to read the Constitution and understand it. In it important to know your rights,” Ratu Epeli said. “Everybody’s rights’ is equal under the Constitution whether one is disabled, HIV positive or what so ever.”

The Head of State also highlighted that while Fijian students are well educated on the issue of HIV/AIDS, he urged them not to be complacent.

He added that anti – lateral viral drugs are free for those wanting to join the programme which is funded by Government.

“It is a very expensive programme (drugs) but Government has made a commitment to foot the bill; an assistance that would greatly benefit those that are HIV positive and are willing to undergo the programme.”

 

 

  1. PS SUGAR TO LEAD FIJIAN DELEGATION TO GLOBAL SUGAR MEETING

The Ministry of Sugar Industry acting permanent secretary Parmesh Chand is leading a high level Fijian Delegation to the 47th International Sugar Organization (ISO) Council Meeting to be held in Guatemala from 2226 June, 2015.

The ISO Council will be preceded by a one-day International Conference on sugar covering various topics such as Sugar and Obesity; the Central America Experience with the fortification of Sugar with vitamin “A” and Iron”; Development of CSR Practices in Guatemala; World Market Outlook; Practical Experiences at the Technological Centre of Piracicaba-Brazil; Sustainable Water Management in Columbia and Perspectives for Sugar Trade 2015 Onwards.

The establishment of contacts and the interaction with the authors of these papers and the exchange of ideas on a global perspective of contentious issues that confront the sugar industry would be invaluable for the Fijian delegation and the nation’s sugar sector.

The 47th Session of the ISO Council would again examine the governance issues of the Council, sharing and updates of national policies relating to the sugar industry by members wishing to provide updates and the presentation and release of various studies and publications done by the ISO Economists and Secretariat.

The Fijian delegation includes Fiji’s Ambassador to Brazil Mr Cama Tuiloma, Fiji’s Counsellor at the Fiji Mission in Brussels Mr Nidhendra Singh, the Sugarcane Growers Council chief executive office Mr Sundresh Chetty, the Industrial Commissioner/Registrar, Sugar Industry Tribunal Mr Timothy Brown, the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji acting chief executive officer Mr Sanjay Prakash and the Ministry of Sugar director Mr Viliame Gucake.
